Ollama + Grip OS

Ollama lets you run open-source language models entirely on your Mac. Grip OS auto-discovers your installed Ollama models and makes them available alongside cloud providers in the same interface. Use Llama, Phi, Gemma, Qwen, and hundreds of other models with zero API cost and complete data privacy. Ideal for sensitive work, offline use, or as an always-available fallback when cloud providers are rate-limited.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a GPU to run Ollama models?
No. Ollama runs on CPU, but Apple Silicon Macs with 16GB+ RAM provide the best experience. Models run on the GPU cores of Apple Silicon automatically.
Which models work best with Grip OS?
Llama 3.2 (8B) and Phi-4 are excellent for general tasks on 16GB machines. For coding, try CodeLlama or DeepSeek Coder.
Can I use Ollama as a fallback for cloud models?
Yes. Configure Ollama as a secondary provider so Grip OS automatically routes to local models when your cloud API is rate-limited or unavailable.
Is my data sent anywhere when using Ollama?
No. All inference happens locally on your Mac. No data leaves your machine when using Ollama models.
